Several teams of guns on the shoot have expressed concern with the continued reports of the likelihood of a recurrence of bird flu and the thought has never been far from our minds as well. Whilst our bio-security measures follow all the latest DEFRA guidance the concern is that local chicken flocks, even small domestic ones, may catch bird flu which could result in shooting being cancelled by order of DEFRA in nearby shoots.
That’s why we were delighted when, Yorkshire based, Shoot Protect started to offer insurance cover for teams of guns at very reasonable rates. Shoot Protect can be contacted through.
Super Sales at Sedgemoor
Our first sale of bullocks at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre this month, saw some tremendous results for our Mornacott herd.
Our first sale of bullocks at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre this month, saw some tremendous results for our Mornacott herd. Two of our stores made a very respectable £1205 and in the stirks category, described as a smart consignment from Mornacott, we made second price. With cattle being drawn from all over the South of England and Wales, the fruits of our team’s breeding and nutrition programme is certainly starting to reap encouraging rewards.

The road to Mornacott ......
Just a little over one year ago we had a rant in this section about the potholes that were causing havoc along the lane to Mornacott.

The end of March sees the annual Exmoor Keeper's Challenge which was held this year at Milton's Estate just outside Dulverton. Charles Owen, our Estate Manager, and Toby Penton, our Gamekeeper once again teamed up with the Portledge Estate to represent Mornacott for the fourth year running.
The competition was fierce, and the team were delighted, if somewhat suprised as they were announced as the winners with a 10 point lead over the other teams bringing their total wins in the last four years to three.
The Mornacott team would like to thank the hosts for a great day with great company and what was a great event.
This little piggy came from market
This weekend saw the arrival of our newest batch of pigs named (from left to right) Guinevere, Galahad, Lancelot, Percival, Arthur and Merlin.
The pigs are a Pietrain cross and it's anticipated that they'll all be fully grown by the end of the summer holiday season.
For such young weaners they're already pretty boisterous and full of character.
